hercules
Hercules is a personal illustration that I have been working on for quite a while. I dedicate it to my grandfather who is no longer with us.
‘Παππού’ was a huge fan of Greek mythology, especially to the labours of Hercules.
According to Greek mythology, Hercules was the son of Zeus, king of Gods and humans. Hera, Zeus’ wife, drove him insane causing him to murder his wife and children. After recovering his sanity, he felt guilty and betrayed.
His cousin Theseus convinced him to find a way to get rid of his guilt. He traveled to Delphi where King Eurystheus ordered him to perform 12 “heroic labors”. In return, he would be released from his guilt and be rewarded with immortality.
This illustration is based in the last days of Heracles. He is climbing a mountain leading to his death.
